Prognostication always carries risk, but 2005 has the potential of being one of the most historic in the citrus industry. The Florida Department of Citrus on Feb. 3 filed its appeal in the box tax lawsuit at the Florida Supreme Court. Attorneys for the department and the six growers seeking to invalidate the tax on processed oranges and grapefruit agreed the high court's decision could be decisive. But the state Supreme Court is not expected to rule until the second half of the year.
