Design and success go hand in hand. A slightly bold claim, you might think, and there are many businesses in Britain who might agree with you However recent research by the Design Council (UK) found that 73 per cent of rapidly growing companies had used design in the previous year, compared to 37 per cent of companies whose turnover had flatlined and 34 per cent of shrinking businesses. That suggests fast-growing businesses know something that average ones don't. And there's more. We've discovered that between 1996 and 2002, the share prices of publicly quoted companies recognised for their effective use of design outperformed the FTSE 100 Share Index. They outdid it by 65 per cent over the whole period, and by 23 per cent during periods when the market was in 'bear' mode. Very powerful evidence, I'm sure you'll agree.
