Vaidya et al reported a retrospective within-subject comparison of propofol and methohexital anesthesia for electro-convulsive therapy (ECT). Their findings were that patients treated by right unilateral electrode placement and who received propofol required significantly more treatments than those who received methohexital. They noted that the efficacy of unilateral ECT is particularly related to the seizure threshold, suggesting that propofol may raise the seizure threshold more than methohexital.
