In China the "Energy Savings and Emission Reduction Policies" being carried out in the country, have caused uncertainty with respect to production of ferro-chrome. A Hunan-based producer with an annual output of 7,200-8,400tpa of high-carbon ferro-chrome, indicated to us that their furnace had not been forced to stop production, though ferro-alloy plants in Hebei and Inner Mongolia have ceased production. This is resulting in many stainless steel producers increasing their bids for fear of not being able to secure sufficient material. We are forecasting Asian output to reach 2,773,000 tonnes this year, with a reduction of 27,000 tonnes forecast for fourth-quarter Asian production.
