Hundreds of types of machined end connectors are used to transmit fluid in fabricated tube and hose assemblies. In recent years manufacturers and end users of these connectors have been developing new methods and processes that eliminate machined connectors and the associated joining operation. Eliminating connectors and joining operations can help save both money and time. Eaton Corp. manufactures a patented end connector, called STC~R, or Snap to Connect. It is a reusable connector designed for low-, medium-, and high-pressure applications. STC is a threadless connection that requires only hand assembly to connect and a simple release tool to disconnect. Twelve individual manufacturing processes are required to make a complete machined male connector half that is brazed to a tube (see Figure 1).
