Steel prices are going up. Crude oil prices are going up. Transportation prices are going up. That's a lot of additional cost every time a building is going up. What can you do about it? If you're involved in building design, you might consider using more hollow structural sections (HSS). According to information compiled by the Steel Tube Institute of North America (STI), HSS components can be a viable and economical alternative to wide-flange structural elements such as W and HP shapes.
