This past January I attended a meeting in Annapolis, Maryland regarding a new insect that has made its way into North America. The insect is the Sirex woodwasp (Sirex noctillo). This little pest is native to Europe, Asia, and northern Africa. This species has been found in 26 counties in New York and two counties in Pennsylvania and is also in the Canadian Province of Ontario. This bug has been located roughly 100 miles east of Detroit.
