Derek Lambert explains what a hybrid is, which fish are hybrids and the role they play in the hobby and trade today. GRABBING MY TRUSTY DICTIONARY AND turning to the h's I found this definition of a hybrid: The offspring of genetically dissimilar parents or stock; especially, the offspring produced by breeding plants or animals of different varieties, species, or races. Well that's sorted that! End of article and story! Well obviously not, unless I intend to fill the rest of the pages with picturesof beautiful plants and animals that are hybrids. Make no mistake, I certainly could do that and have plenty of pictures left over to fill the rest of the magazine. Hybrids are simply everywhere, and yet most of us are totally unaware of which fish are hybrids and which are not, and it is this lack of knowledge that 1 believe has allowed this controversy to spring up around a beautiful hybrid fish called a Flower Horn cichlid.
