Does that feel better? It's a question more veterinari- ans wish they could ask their patients and more clients are willing to pay to ensure that, if animals could answer, they would say "Yes!" "I want veterinarians to think of pain as a disease in and of itself and not just as a symptom of disease," says Michael Tomasic, VMD, DAVCA, an anesthesiologist who runs Veterinary Pain Management in Santa Fe, N.M. "The value of that is that they will then start to look at pain as something they should treatbecause it will improve [animals'] quality of life and it will improve the healing of the disease process."
