摘要

New legislation governing veterinary medicine is currently being considered at European level, which should make labelling more user friendly for vets and manufacturers. The future vision, according to Brendan Barnes of the Animal and Plant Health Association, is for a true single market in the EU for veterinary medicines. This would require Member States to adapt current national procedures to service a larger number of Member States and to avoid "yesterday's solutions for tomorrow's problems". Thefuture, he said, is efficiency through simplification; "the age of multiple procedures and duplication of assessment is over". The 1-1-1 concept, he said, should be a future reality - with just one dossier, one assessment and one decision for veterinarymedicines that would be valid throughout the EU.
