The new Golf BlueMotion offers further improved fuel economy, along with ample performance and refinement. RECENTLY PRESENTED to the press alongside the new Golf Estate, the new BlueMotion version of the Golf hatchback is claimed to be one of the world's most fuel-efficient family cars, with an official overall fuel consumption figure of 3.2 litres per 100 km (88.3 mpg) and CO_2 emissions of just 85 g/km. Powered by a 110 PS 1.6 TDI unit from the new EA288 engine series, producing its maximum torque of 250 Nm from 1500-3000 rpm, the common-rail 16-valve turbo-diesel incorporates many technical refinements to reduce internal friction, improve warm-up times and enhance exhaust gas recirculation. It has a two-stage oil pump, switchable electric water pump and a water-cooled intercooler in the inlet manifold, along with an oxidation catalytic converter, DPF and a NO_x storage catalytic converter.
