FOLLOWING OUTINGS at Brands Hatch and Donington Park during April, Thruxton (May 3-4) had seen some problems to be overcome before this year's driver James Kaye finished Race 3 in third place in class; the Golf taking the flag in 19th overall, writes Matt Salisbury. But for Oulton Park (June 8-9), the driver's seat of the AmDTuning.com Mk 5 Golf saw Volkswagen Racing Cup driver Aaron Mason making his Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship debut, after a last-minute business commitment prevented James from making the trip to Cheshire. Aaron, the most successful driver in the history of the Volkswagen Racing Cup in terms of race victories, with no fewer than 15 wins at that stage, swapped his regular Scirocco R for the 2.0 16V turbo-powered BTCC Golf, this year competing for the newly-introduced Jack Sears Trophy, amongst those drivers using older Super 2000-spec machinery.
