I have, for some time, been troubled by the term 'pharmaceutical care' simply because I doubt that members of the public at whom such care is directed understand the term. Pharmacists need to guard against the real danger of obfusca-tion caused by resorting to medical jargon in communicating with patients. I believe that when we use the term pharmaceutical care to describe the philosophy and practice of pharmacists caring for people, then we fall into the trap of using a term that may hold little meaning for society at large. Pharmacists may understand what is meant by the term but do the people at whom such care is directed understand what is meant? Is there a pharmaceutical care 'concordance chasm' between patient and pharmacist?
