Progress in Advanced High-Strength Steels (AHSS) is the most recent innovation in the global steel industry's efforts to develop steel solutions that help automakers build vehicles that are safer, more fuel efficient, environmentally responsible and yet maintain their affordability. Because ARSS go beyond convention, high-strength grades (HS S), they are considered the latest material of choice for crash-sensitive parts in the ULSAB-AVC (Advanced Vehicle Concepts) program, the global steel industry's latest initiative. Their inclusion in the AVC program will demonstrate their effectiveness in improving vehicle structural performance while reducing mass, and helping automakers satisfy more stringent safety requirements and occupant protection ratings for 2004 and beyond.
