摘要

Nursing has been described as both a science and an art. While agreeing with that description, I offer another pair of descriptors. Consider the terms knowledge generation and knowledge translation. Readers of this journal know the value of knowledge generation. The outcomes of nurse scientists who generate nursing knowledge are vitally important for our discipline and the communities we serve; however, knowledge generation has limited value without being used in practice. The science of preparing knowledge for use in practice begins with evidence synthesis. The Cochrane Collaboration, a significant contributor to the work of evidence synthesis, is now celebrating its 20th anniversary. This occasion provides an opportunity to reflect on its origins, methodology, and contribution to the nursing profession.
