摘要

In order to resolve technical and economical problems in manufacturing penstock bifurcations of hydro-electric power stations, HT980 steel of 200 mm thickness has been developed, which has the same construction performance with HT780 steel. Theproblems when the HT980 steel is used as reinforcement, i.e. the sickle plate of Escher-Wyss type bifurcation, are discussed in this paper. Experiments have been conducted, such as base metal performance test, welded joint property test, fracturetoughness tests including original thickness ESSO test and compact tension (CT) test and so on. It has been confirmed that the properties of the developed HT980 base metal and its welded joints satisfy the target values. Furthermore, it has also beenverified that the developed HT980 steel of 200 mm thickness has almost the same weldability with HT780 steel as that already employed as the sickle plate. The results show that the high strength of HT980 steel, contributes to the decrease in the pipethickness of the penstock and the simplification of the construction procedures. In addition, a case study demonstrates that the reduction of construction cost can be expected by utilizing HT980 steel.
