I write this column on the cusp of that extra day in February that happens every four years. As I do so I'm looking ahead to April, when you read it. Today we talk about leap year babies periodically missing their special day, but before the Julian calendar a much larger chunk of time (and many more birthdays) were deemed intercalaris ('intercalendar').
