A trip to Hawaii in the middle of winter is a good thing. It's even better when there are family and friends to visit. Last January we flew to Kauai and the Big Island and spent a week on each island. Our daughter, Lola, lives with her partner WillieShook and his folks on Kauai near Kileua. The Shock's have Pepperwood Plantation. They supply field-dug palms and cycads to a thriving landscape market on the North shore. Willie is developing a stock of the best tropical bamboo for the local market. A three year-old planting of Guaduas down in a vale were sending up five-inch diameter culms!
