Innovative machine concepts for chip-removing production as well as for flexible handling systems. The demands for increased productivity with simultaneous reduction of costs have lead in production engineering to a consideration of new machine concepts. In conventional machine tool kinematics, the linear relative motion between workpiece and tool takes place along the axes of a Cartesian coordinate system. For 5-axis machining, in tool-making and mould-making, for example, this motion can also be overlaid with one or two rotatory axes in addition. Due to the machine components that build on one another, such as bearings, guides and drive units, the moving mass rises and leads to a deterioration in the dynamic behavior of the structure. The use of parallel kinematics in handling machines and machine tools offers potentials particularly in respect of dynamics and stiffness.
