The choice of ligands with different spacer lengthand coordination orientation leeads to size,shape and packign differences between two self-assembled molecular squares [Zn_4H_8L~1_4][PF_6]_5[NO_3]_3 S(1) and [Zn_4H_8L~2_4][PF_6]_6[NO_3]_2 S(2) (S=solvent),formed fromZn(NO_3)_2 and two easy-toprepare bistridentate Schiff-based ligands.
