Looking for an unusual venue in which to test the Rio, Peter Cracknell was delighted to discover somewhere the fuel's a lot better value too. Although we've put a fair few miles on the Rio since it came to us in March, journeys have been predominantly short. So in the expectation of sparkling motoring under a summer sun we wanted somewhere where the Kia could stretch its legs, a place that wouldn't suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous package deals, so we headed for Luxembourg - nobody goes there! Once over the water on P&O's excellent Dover-Calais service (in one of their two new 210-metre superferries, the largest ever boats on the channel crossing) we took what looked the quickest available route - toll-free motorways all the way: A16 up to Dunkirk, then across via Lille to Namur, and south-east from there to Luxembourg on good N-roads. It's about a four and a half hour drive if you're not in a hurry.
