摘要

A thin 64-year-old man was treated for an acquired nonmalignant tracheoesophageal fistula accompanied with chronic empyema. Because he had empyema, we performed only open drainage of the right thoracic cavity. We tried en-doscopic closure of the fistula with titanium clips via esopha-goscopy, but most of the clips slipped down about 1 month after this procedure. Despite intensive treatment, he died of gastrointestinal hemorrhage and aspiration pneumonia. Tracheoesophageal fistula accompanied with chronic empyema is extremely rare and very severe. Among endoscopic therapies, the clipping method was not suitable for the closure of tracheoesophageal fistula in this case.
