Vitiligo is a curious and very well-known skin disease. The chalk-white patches are psychologically disturbing for patients, even though they are asymptomatic except for some potential photosensitivity, especially considering the predilection for visible regions, such as the face and hands. We live in an era where "tanned is beautiful". As dermatologists, we must turn to histology to help in the diagnosis of lightened skin conditions, such as leukoderma (a generic term which means "white skin"), into hypocytomelanotic (vitiligo and others), hypomelanotic (albinism and many more), and neither hypomelanotic nor hypocytomelanotic forms of decreased pigmentation.
