摘要

This paper explores the role of the pressure sore prediction score [Lowthian, P., Care, Science and Practice 5 (4) (1987) 3] within the orthopaedic environment. It considers the intrinsic and extrinsic factors of pressure ulcer development and the reliability and validity of the tool when assessing a patient's level of risk.It concludes that the pressure sore prediction score is an effective tool to use in the orthopaedic setting because it is simple and not time consuming, reducing inter-rater reliability problems. However it recommends continued training to ensure it is used appropriately; as well as increased reliability and validity research to ensure a suitable threshold score is set for each orthopaedic area.
