Earlier last year I was lucky enough to win an educational and travel bursary through my Trust to travel to Canada to attend the Canadian Orthopaedic Nurse's Association (CONA) conference in Montreal. Arranging the travel and registering for the conference was straightforward but I had one or two anxieties about travelling on my own from the UK.The conference was scheduled to begin on the Monday morning but registration took place on the Sunday morning and two social events had been arranged. The first a walking tour of old Montreal allowed the delegates to meet and break the ice and I found the Canadians to be extremely friendly and welcoming. There were also one or two familiar faces from the UK; Deborah Wheeler, Peter Davis, Chris Knight, Elaine Collins and Margaret Dunseath. In the evening the cocktail reception allowed me to meet nurses from all over Canada and get to know a little bit about orthopaedic nursing there.
