摘要

Confronting the challenges of Alzheimer's disease offers no less possibility for self-examination through writing than any other kind of life experience or query. Two writing forms that are especially helpful in seeking to understand the progression of Alzheimer's disease are diary writing and poetry. Each offers an outlet for the self-absorption needed to prepare, on a daily basis, even on a minute-to-minute basis, for the around-the-clock job of caregiving. These outlets provide time to relax into a space that accelerates awareness of the interior life so as to enable and engage coping strategies to manage the daily and difficult struggle of dealing with Alzheimer's disease.
