摘要

The focus of this narrative report is on the poetic exchange between two physicians (a general internist! medical educator and a psychiatrist)Consider two poets who live about 500 miles from one another. The poet on Long Island is a medical educator and general internist; the one in Pennsylvania, a child and adolescent psychiatrist. At one time they both lived in Pittsburgh, where the psychiatrist was a medical student and the internist was his teacher. In the 30 years since the younger poet graduated, their encounters have been few but enjoyable. In particular, they met unexpectedly in 2004 and renewed their friendship at a weeklong poetry workshop in Squaw Valley entitled "Writing the Medical Experience." Since then, the internist co-edited an anthology of physician-poets, including poems by the adolescent psychiatrist (Belli & Coulehan 2006). The two correspond sporadically by email.
