摘要

In this paper a simple dc polarographic method is presented for demonstrating the stepwise reduction of oxygen to hydrogen peroxide in aqueous media, at acidic near natural pHs, without the addition of surfactants. The principle is based on the fact L - tryptophan (trp) stabilizes superoxide anion O_2, in aqueous medium. Tryptophan in the concentration range. 2 X 10~(-4) M to 1 X 10~(-6) M brings about splitting of the single 2e dc wave of O_2→H_2O_2 reduction into two 1e steps enabling electrogenertion of superoxide ion as a stable transient species.
