One (0.1, 0.2, 0.4 or 0.8 kg/ha) or 2 (0.05 + 0.05, 0.1 + 0.1, 0.2 + 0.2 or 0.4 + 0.4 kg/ha) applications of trinexapac-ethyl were applied to bermudagrass cv. Tifway (Cynodon dactylon X C. transvaalensis), growing in Guam, to evaluate growth suppression and phytotoxicity. In all treatments growth was suppressed for 4 weeks. A single application of trinexapac-ethyl (0.2 kg/ha) suppressed vegetative growth by 30-34% 2 weeks after treatment. Suppression was reduced by 17-24% after 4 weeks and by ?2%after 6 weeks. Growth suppression after 6 weeks was higher (13-23%) in plots treated once with trinexapac-ethyl at 0.4 kg/ha compared with those treated once at 0.2 kg/ha. Growth suppression was not increased by split trinexapac-ethyl applications when compared with single applications when each was applied at the same total rate. Turf quality was reduced by trinexapac-ethyl applied at rates of 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 kg/ha. Turf treated at 0.2 kg trinexapac/ha generally maintained an acceptable quality, but required 3-8 weeks for complete recovery.
