During 1995, the plant growth regulator trinexapac-ethyl (4-(cyclopropyl-alpha-hydroxymethylene)-3,5-dioxo-cyclohexanecarboxylic acid ethyl ester) was applied alone or tank-mixed with Fe (sodium ferric diethylenetriamine penta-acetate) to bermudagrass cv. Tifway (Cynodon dactylon X C. transvaalensis) in 2 studies in Guam. The potential of Fe to mask injury of bermudagrass caused by trinexapac-ethyl was determined. Treatments consisted of one or two applications of 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 and 0.8 kg/ha of trinexapac-ethyl with or without 1.0 kg Fe/ha. Single or split applications of trinexapac-ethyl at 0.4 and 0.8 kg/ha resulted in serious discoloration which was effectively masked by Fe application. Fe tank-mixed with trinexapac-ethyl significantly improvedturf colour for up to 6 weeks compared with plots treated with trinexapac-ethyl alone. Split application improved turfgrass colour, but to a lesser extent than Fe.
