摘要

Bangladesh is dominated by a small holder agrarian economy under extreme stress. According to Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS 1998) agriculture contributed 32% of Bangladesh's GDP and provided employment for about 69% of its population. Increasedfarm mechanization is a solution to the decline in the availability of farm labor for agricultural development and to increase in industry and service sectors. In most areas of the country, human labor, animal power, power tiller, tractor, and traditional farm equipment are used right from land preparation to storage. The serious scarcity of draft power necessitates the use of mechanical power for agricultural activities. The use of agricultural machinery has increased significantly and immense potential is created for further increase. To promote agricultural mechanization, resource planning is needed with proper information management infrastructure. Consequently the type of agricultural machine or level of mechanization is needed in any region depends on energy use, need and shortage assessment with the integration of socio economic conditions.
