Influence of Nonstationarity on Heat Transfer in the Regenerative Air Heater

We analyze work on heat transfer in the regenerative air heater equipped with the packing in the form of a stack of parallel smooth plates. The results of direct measurements previously obtained with the use of the laboratory regenerative air heater were processed by means of an improved, more exact mathematical model of a regenerator. The experimental data were supplemented by a series of experiments with the packing made of other materials. We obtained a new criterional equation for heat transfer in short channels of a rectangular cross section in the laminar nonstationary flow characteristic of regenerative air heaters.
