Forecast International projects that the US DoD will spend approximately USD490 million on the research and development of the Joint Tactical Radio System over the next decade; Initial order of JTRS was expected to undergo T&E in 2005, with the first 10,000 to 50,000 JTRS units being employed by US Army, Air Force and Marine Corp in 2006; Production, delivery, and employment of the system will likely be accelerated for Operation Enduring Freedom. The Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) is a United States Department of Defense program. The goals of the JTRS program are to research, develop, and purchase a single, standard radio system for the entire United States armed services. To accomplish this, the Joint Tactical Radio System will run by software.
