The European Parliament has adopted five resolutions calling for the European Commission not to approve the cultivation of food/feed use of four genetically modified maize lines and a GM cotton line. The resolutions relate to applications for: the cultivation of DuPont/Dow AgroSciences’ insect-resistant Herculex I (1507) maize and Syngenta’s insect-resistant Bt11 maize; the approval of products derived from Dow’s stacked-trait cotton, which combines its insect-resistant WideStrike line (281-24-236x3006-210-23) with Monsanto’s glyphosate herbicidetolerant Roundup Ready Flex (MON88913); and the renewal of approvals for cultivation and products of Monsanto’s insect-resistant MON810 maize. The non-binding resolutions were put forward by the Parliament’s Environment Committee and place no legal obligation on the Commission.
