摘要

PbS quantum-dot-doped glasses are demonstrated as saturable absorber Q-switches for 2 (mu)m holmium lasers. Q-switched pulses from Ho~(3-):Y_(3)Sc_(2)Al_(3)O_(12) and Ho~(3+):Y_(3)Al_(5)O_(12) lasers of 50 and 70 ns in duration, respectively, have been obtained demonstrating up to 13percent of energy conversion efficiency from free-running to Q-switched output.
