Sinopec’s plan to build a 3 million tons/yr LNG import terminal in Southern China is expected to soon win state approval, a source with direct knowledge of the $2.8 billion project told Reuters. The terminal, to be built on a man-made island off the southwestern coastal city of Beihai, is slated to start operations around mid- 2015, a slight delay from an earlier plan, and will bring in gas from Queensland, Australia. It was announced last September that Sinopec would buy LNG from the ConocoPhillips and Origin Energy-led Australia Pacific LNG development (IOD Sep.20’11).
