After having its role as swing producer rubber-stamped by fellow members at the Opec meeting in Vienna on Dec. 14, Saudi Arabia appears to be abdicating this long held role, at least for the time being. In its latest Monthly Oil Market Report, Opec reported that its crude oil production hit 30.9 million barrels per day in January -- based on secondary sources -- the highest level since October 2008 and almost 1 million b/d above its new target of 30 million b/d.
