Chevron told investors Wednesday that its earnings for the second quarter of 2012 are expected to be higher than in the first three months of the year, marking the US major’s second consecutive quarterly improvement. Chevron attributes the stronger performance to its downstream business, where earnings should be “significantly” higher than the first quarter thanks to improved refining margins in the US and roughly $200 million in asset sale proceeds.
