Further confusion emerged on Wednesday about a potential trade agreement between Iran and Russia and whether it involves Moscow selling Iranian crude oil, an action that the US has repeatedly said breaches international sanctions imposed on the Islamic republic. Initials reports of the deal--through which Moscow would lift 500,000 barrels per day of Iranian crude--surfaced earlier this year but there have been few developments since and Iranian oil officials have repeatedly distanced themselves from it, saying it would be difficult to implement (IOD Apr.15'15).
