In the first announcement of results of its current deepwater exploration campaign off West Africa, Royal Dutch Shell said Wednesday it has found a "substantial gas column" of around 200 meters net pay at the Leopard-1 well in Gabon's offshore presalt play. The well, which was drilled in license BCD 10, is located 145 km off the coast, west of Gamba. It was drilled in water 2,110 meters deep to a vertical depth of 5,063 meters. The company is now planning an appraisal program to assess the resource volumes.
