Kazakhstan's top oil official says the international consortium developing the giant offshore Kashagan oil field will have to spend at least $3 billion to replace two 100 kilometer offshore pipelines that sprang a gas leak last year, forcing production to be suspended just days after it had started. So far, the contractors, which include Exxon Mobil, Eni, Royal Dutch Shell and Total, have shelled out close to $50 billion on the project without seeing a single drop of revenue.
