Despite repeated attempts, Iran still cannot gain access to the Sumed oil pipeline system that would provide its crude with a shortcut to the European market (IOD Feb.26'16). The 2.34 million barrel per day pipeline itself has spare capacity but talks between the Sumed consortium and National Iranian Oil Co. (NIOC) are on hold until space in the associated 20.8 million bbl storage facility at Sidi Kerir on Egypt's Mediterranean coast becomes available next month, a Sumed source tells International Oil Daily.
