China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) and China General Nuclear Power Corp. (CGN), respectively China's largest offshore oil producer and biggest nuclear operator, signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement on Thursday. CNOOC wants CGN to provide floating nuclear reactors for its offshore oil and gas fields, in order to reduce its production costs (IOD Jan.14'16). CGN is currently carrying out preliminary design work for a demonstration of its ACPR50S reactor, which is able to supply electricity for offshore oil and gas exploration.
