Det norske is using vessels instead of rigs for the cutting and removal of exploration wells, making it the first company to do so on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Det norske has signed a three-year framework agreement with Norse Cutting & Abandonment (NCA), including a two-year option. Director of drilling in Det norske, Anton Tronstad said: "This allows us to release the rigs earlier so they can faster do what they are built for, namely drilling wells. It reduces the costs for this part of the operation since it is done with a vessel which has far lower daily costs than a rig." After completing the drilling of an exploration well, the rig will secure the well in accordance with the PSA regulations, including a trawl protection installed over the wellhead.
