Midland-Braskem and Dow Chemical Co have signed a definitive agreement for the sale of Dow's global polypropylene (PP) business to Braskem for a total value of $340-million. The sale includes Dow's Schkopau and Wesseling, Germany, PP plants, having a combined capacity of 545,000 t/y, and PP plants in Freeport and Seadrift, Texas, with a combined capacity of 505,000 t/y. Braskem noted that the two U.S. plants will increase its PP capacity in the region by 50%. Also included are inventory, business know-how, certain product and process technology and customer contracts and lists.
