]Midland-Dow Chemical last week reported a decrease in its sales and earnings for both the second quarter and first half of this year. Sales during the second quarter totaled $14.5-billion, compared to sales of $16-billion in the comparable 2011 quarter. For the first half of 2012, Dow's sales fell to $29.2-billion from $30.8-billion for the first six months in the previous year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the three months ending 30 June 2012 were nearly $2-billion, down from $2.3-billion in the 2011 second quarter. EBITDA of $3.7-billion for the first six months of this year compared to EBITDA of $4.3-billion for the 2011 first half.
