Siccar Point has completed drilling the Blackrock exploration well 204/5b-2 in the West of Shetland. The well was drilled by the Diamond Ocean GreatWhite semi-submersible rig on Licence P1830 at a water depth of 1,115m (3,658ft), 10km north of the Siccar-operated Cambo field. “The target of the well was the intravolcanic Palaeocene Flett reservoirs of the Colsay Member, which lie on-trend with equivalent oil filled sand- stones in the Rosebank field. The well encoun- tered a 34m (112ft) gross package of intra-vol- canic siliciclastic sediments, which contained a number of thin oil bearing sandstones from which oil samples were obtained. Gas was also encoun- tered in the overlying Hildasay supravolcanic Member,” Siccar said.
