French miner Eramet said Thursday manganese ore supply is in slight surplus after an increase of 13.3% in global output last year. Eramet estimated global manganese ore production was 19.6 million mt in 2018, up 13.3% from 17.3 million mt a year ago. The increase was driven by global carbon steel output growth of 4.4% during the year, the company said. Ore stocks at Chinese ports stood at 3.1 million mt at the end of 2018, which increased by 1.3 million mt from a year ago, Eramet said. “There is a slight surplus of manganese ore,” the company said in its 2018 results presentation.
