US aluminum billet upcharges for2019 contracts are 3 cents higher than in 2018on average as a result of robust demand forextruded products and supply constraints affectingthe Midwest, market sources have said.“Every market we’re involved in is busy,” said an extruder source. “I don’t see itstopping anytime soon.” He said truck trailerbusiness was particularly robust.A billet producer agreed. “My customersare telling me business is strong. …[They] tookthe max volume we offered them,” he said. “I’mhearing everyone has a solid order book.”A second billet producer estimated thatdemand was up 4% year over year. Asidefrom truck trailers, demand was also strongin construction, he said.
