The wide-ranging functions of lipids have led to alterations in their metabolism being implicated in the development of a number of cancers. A PubMed search for cancer and lipid metabolism demonstrates that this is a growing area of research with 55 144 entries since January 2011. Understanding the specific metabolic patterns and interactions in cancer may help identify the drug targets or surrogate markers for cancer risk. Two recent reviews summarize the literature on the role of lipids and their metabolism in cancer.
